Affiliate Privacy Policy

How EduLight collects, uses and protects information relating to affiliate applications, referrals and commission administration.

1. Who we are

This policy explains how EduLight, operated through the EduLight website at edulight.hmegroup.co.za (“EduLight”, “we”, “us” or “our”), handles personal information when you apply to or participate in the EduLight Unlimited Affiliate Programme.

2. Information we may collect

Depending on how you register and participate, we may collect:

  • Identity and contact details, such as your name, email address and username.
  • Account information, such as your affiliate account status and registration details. Passwords should be stored by the website in protected form; we do not need to see your password in plain text.
  • Information you provide about how you intend to promote EduLight, including a website or social media presence.
  • Affiliate activity, such as your referral link or code, clicks, attributed referrals, qualifying purchases, commission records and account activity.
  • Payment administration information needed to verify and pay commissions, such as payment details and records. We aim to collect only what is reasonably necessary and to limit access to it.
  • Communications you send us and records needed to handle support, disputes, fraud prevention or legal obligations.

3. How we use information

We may use personal information to:

  • Review and administer affiliate applications and accounts.
  • Create and maintain referral tracking and attribute qualifying sales to affiliates.
  • Calculate, verify, administer and pay commissions.
  • Communicate about applications, programme updates, payments and support requests.
  • Detect suspected fraud, abuse, self-referrals or breaches of the affiliate programme terms.
  • Maintain website security, records and reporting.
  • Meet applicable legal, tax, accounting and regulatory requirements.

4. Referral tracking and cookies

Affiliate links may contain a referral identifier. When a prospective customer follows a link, the website and affiliate software may use cookies or similar technologies and technical logs to recognise the referral and attribute a qualifying transaction, subject to the website’s settings and applicable law.

Browser settings may allow you to block or delete cookies, but this can affect referral tracking. Tracking is not guaranteed in every circumstance, for example if cookies are blocked, a different device is used, or the referral attribution period has expired.

5. Sharing information

We do not sell personal information to third parties. We may share relevant information, where reasonably necessary, with service providers that help us operate the website, affiliate tracking, hosting, communications, security, accounting or payment processes; with professional advisers; or where disclosure is required by law, needed to protect rights and safety, or necessary to investigate suspected fraud or enforce programme terms.

Service providers should receive only information needed for their role and should handle it subject to appropriate safeguards.

6. Storage, security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to administer the programme, maintain financial and referral records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and meet legal obligations. When information is no longer needed, we will take reasonable steps to delete it or de-identify it, where appropriate.

7. Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you, query how it is used, or request deletion where we are not required or otherwise permitted to retain it. You may also close your affiliate account by contacting us. Closing an account does not necessarily erase records that must be retained for accounting, legal, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes.

8. Direct marketing and communications

We may send messages needed to administer your application or affiliate account, such as approval decisions, programme notices and commission updates. Any optional marketing communications will be handled in accordance with applicable law, and you may use the unsubscribe method provided where available.

9. Children

The affiliate programme is intended for people who are legally able to enter into the relevant agreement. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to the programme without appropriate authorisation, contact us so we can assess the situation.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology or legal requirements. The latest version will be published on this page with its updated date. Please review it periodically.
